If you’ve visited my blog before I’m sure you will have noticed that it’s been looking a little neglected but that’s about to change. My New Years resolution for 2021 is to be more active here on the blog. I’ll be sharing some of the gorgeous weddings from this beautiful area of Scotland that I’m lucky to call my home, alongside tips for couple planning their wedding in the area, and some highlights of my portrait and commercial work. I’m so excited to get started that I thought I would share a couple of weddings ahead of the new year.

First up is the wedding of Euan and Vikki who made a long journey up from England to get married on a beautiful white sandy beach on the tranquil island of Iona in the Inner Hebrides. Euan’s family had spent holidays on Iona and he had fallen in love with the island but Vikki and her family had never visited Scotland before the wedding. They were so impressed by the beautiful beaches, the clear blue sea, and the genuine warmth of the people they met that they felt quite emotional and will definitely be returning.

My own journey from Oban involves a 40 minute sailing on the ferry to Mull, a drive to Fionnphort then a short 2 minute hop on the small ferry over to Iona. It might sound a bit of a trek to anyone who isn’t local but here it’s quite normal to travel between the islands like this. On this particular day I also picked up three girls who were walking along a winding single track lane and made sure they made it to the ferry on time.

Euan and Vikki had hired a cottage on Iona with a barn attached so after their wedding on the beach they could have a small family gathering. I was able to stay for the cake cutting but then it was time for me to leave and catch the ferry back.

Couples choosing to get married on Iona have the option of a registrar who will travel from Mull or a humanist celebrant. For weddings requiring longer photographic coverage I arrange an overnight stay. If you have any questions about getting married in or around Oban and the Highlands and Islands, or would like to discuss your own wedding photography, please feel free to get in touch via the Contact Page.
